Flooring Types We Install
Solid Hardwood Flooring
Solid timber floors in oak, ash, walnut, and other hardwoods — installed by nailing or glueing to a timber subfloor. Solid hardwood can be sanded and refinished multiple times over its lifetime, making it a long-term investment. Suitable for ground floor rooms where humidity is controlled.
Engineered Wood Flooring
The most versatile wood flooring option — a real hardwood wear layer over a stable core that handles humidity better than solid wood. Suitable for kitchens, ground floor rooms with underfloor heating, and rooms over concrete subfloors where solid wood would be unsuitable.
Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT)
LVT has largely replaced laminate as the go-to practical flooring option — it’s fully waterproof, dimensionally stable, warm underfoot, and very durable. Available in realistic wood and stone effects. Ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, and whole-house layouts where consistency matters.
Laminate Flooring
A cost-effective option for living rooms and bedrooms. Modern laminate offers good wear resistance and a wide range of finishes. We install it properly — floating on an appropriate underlay over a level subfloor — so it doesn’t sound hollow or develop gaps over time.
Tile Flooring
Porcelain and ceramic floor tiles for kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, and hallways. Large-format tiles require a very flat subfloor — we screed or self-level where needed to ensure the finished result is flat and the tiles don’t crack. We work with rectified tiles for minimal grout joints where a contemporary look is the aim.
Subfloor Preparation
Every flooring installation starts with the subfloor. We level concrete substrates using self-levelling compound, replace damaged or bouncy floorboards, install acoustic underlay where required, and apply DPM (damp proof membrane) over concrete ground floors before laying any wood-based product. This is the work that the finished floor depends on.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can wood flooring go over underfloor heating?
Engineered wood is the preferred choice over underfloor heating — its layered construction handles thermal movement better than solid wood. Solid wood can be used with water-based UFH in some circumstances but requires careful moisture and temperature management. LVT is also compatible with most UFH systems. We’ll advise on what’s appropriate once we know your heating setup.
How do I choose between engineered wood and LVT?
If the room is wet or semi-wet (kitchen, bathroom, utility), LVT is the practical choice — it’s fully waterproof. For living rooms and bedrooms where budget allows, engineered wood gives a better feel underfoot and adds value. If you want consistency across an open-plan ground floor that includes a kitchen, LVT across the whole space is often the cleanest solution.
Do you remove existing flooring before installation?
Yes — strip-out of existing flooring is included in our quotations unless stated otherwise. We dispose of all waste properly. If the existing floor has asbestos-containing materials (common in pre-1980s vinyl tiles), we’ll identify this and arrange specialist removal before any work starts.
